Obtaining The Most Wonderful Images From Your Photographer

As I mentioned in a previous blog posts regarding the necessity of feeling comfortable with your photographer, and vice versa. You hopefully have commissioned a professional whose work you admire.  The work that photographers display in general is the work that best represents them.  Work that they feel proud of.  Normally it is the work that they had total creativity over.  Imagery that they took upon themselves to photograph without any direction from the bride and groom, or some pre-composed list.  Of course there will be a list of formal family images that the photographer must capture for the record. But I am speaking of the flow of the day.  Storytelling images, non- posed, non-directed in any way.  The images that tell the story on their own.  A true photojournalist will produce a photo essay of the day.  The details that are important to you, but never entered your mind to let the photographer know about photographing them.   It is no secrete, if you feel comfortable with your photographer, and you love his or her work, then you can rest assure he or she will be capturing what you wanted, and never knew it.  Remember, the photography is a record in history.  It will bring back a certain memory, good and bad.  If you are comfortable with your photographer, and having a fun time with the photography, then the images will reflect that later.  If you have a pleasant person with a great sense of humor taking your photographs, I am sure this will come out in the imagery later when viewing them.  My suggestion has always been this.  Cut your photographer loose.  Let them explore, let he or she take the time to examine all the details, the smiles, you smelling the flowers, the hugs, the happiness that comes natural on a day like this.  These types of images cannot be posed. They happen on their own.  The photographer’s job is to be patient, to be ready, to anticipate when situations will arise, and to shoot from their hearts.  Situations may or may not happen on their own, but when they do happen naturally, it is gold.  So free you photographer from large detailed photos lists, and let them do what they are best at.
